Dr Hany El-Banna, Founder and Chair of Trustees
Dr Hany El-Banna, born in Egypt in 1950, originally trained in Medicine – both in Egypt and the UK – and has founded several charities including The Humanitarian Forum, Islamic Relief, Muslim Charities Forum and the International HIV Fund. Dr. El-Banna is also a board member of the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty (CIFA). He has visited over 60 of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries on behalf of these organisations.
Amongst his many achievements, he has been awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE), the Ibn Khaldun Award for Excellence in Promoting Understanding between Global Cultures and Faiths (UK) alongside the UK Muslim Power 100 Lifetime Achievement award the Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 at the Global Peace and Unity Event.
Abdul Rehman Varachhia, Trustee
Abdul Rehman Varachhia, born in England in 1968. He graduated from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1989 with a II (I) Honours degree in Law after which he completed the Solicitors exam at Chester Law School in 1990.
Abdul Rehman spent 10 years in private practice as a solicitor undertaking work primarily for the less fortunate in society alongside building up a successful Family Law Practice before taking up a post as in house Legal Counsel and Company Secretary for a large International NGO which works to alleviate poverty all over the world.
Sharhabeel Lone, Trustee
Sharhabeel Lone is a management consultant and works as a senior partner for a global strategy consulting firm. He holds several directorships in education, technology and health care companies.
He is involved in different community initiatives with a focus on mentoring young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, local community regeneration and building bridges between communities. Sharhabeel sits on the Zakat House Finance and Audit committee.
Samira Radman, Trustee
Samira Radman has been working within the international charity sector for over 10 years. She attended Birmingham City University where she graduated with a first class degree in Business and Management.She also holds a Prince 2 project management qualification as well as a qualification from the Inter-Agency Standing Committee on the delivery of humanitarian aid.
She has a wealth of experience in office administration, supporting PR and External Relations activities, contract management and supporting the implementation of global organisational strategies. She has managed the centralised functions of project management where she works with a variety of different donor organisations and implementing partners.
Saleh Saeed, Trustee
Saleh Saeed brings 20 years of successful experience providing strategic leadership in creative and challenging situations. Saleh is currently the CEO of the Disasters Emergency Committee. He has a variety of expertise through his varied career including governance, organisational development, programmes management and marketing and fundraising at a international level.
During his career, Saleh Saeed held a number of senior project and development roles for education and health authorities, including managing Microsoft’s West Midlands ‘Unlimited Potential Programme’. He is also a founding member of the Yemeni Community Association in Sandwell, now one of the most respected community based organisations in the UK.
